San Francisco’s Transamerica Pyramid Earns Top Environmental Prize

San Francisco’s landmark Transamerica Pyramid building received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Platinum certification Thursday, reported the SF Appeal.

The platinum designation is the highest level of certification in environmental sustainability possible.  Transamerica Pyramid’s LEED team received the certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and Melanie Nutter, director of the Department of the Environment for the city and county of San Francisco, according to the article.

The building originally received LEED Gold certification in 2009.  Since receiving that honor, Transamerica Pyramid has worked to boost the building’s efficiency and lower the amount of waste produced.
