The 10 mile extension is planned to go from the Pittsburgh-Bay Point station to a terminus near Hillcrest Avenue and Highway 4 has been delayed for an estimated year. It is now expected to be completed by late 2016. The delay is being attributed to hold-ups in state funding and the widening of highway 4.
The extension is a continuation of the Pittsburg/Bay Point–SFO/Millbrae line. It involves a transfer station just east of the Pittsburgh-Bay Point station where passengers will leave the electronic BART cars and board diesel powered trains, which constitute the extension. The new leg is being referred to as “eBART.” BART plans to eventually extend service to Brentwood and upgrade the extension to full integration.
