One Santa Fe, the 790,000-square-foot mixed-use complex, had been delayed since the mid-2000s due to financing, the Los Angeles Times reported. The complex will be located on Santa Fe Avenue between 1st and 4th street. The site is across from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) and was previously owned by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
The project will be six stories, have 438 apartments (twenty percent of which will be priced for low-income renters) in addition to over 75,000 square feet of office and retail space, with about 50,000 sq. ft. of outdoor space according to the Times. Plans for the retail space include a grocery store, art gallery, and a theater. One Santa Fe is scheduled to open in 2014.
Michael Maltzan Architecture also designed Playa Vista Park in west Los Angeles, the park opened in July 2010.
