A few months later…as promised (not). My usual repertoire, which has caused a struggle I have found writing within my profession, is that I write from my heart about things which inspire me. Not that my profession does not inspire me…it does, it just hasn’t been my mode of written expression . It was my desire and intention to write a weekly or biweekly dialogue about experiencing architecture in Portland – and beyond – from an experiential place. How does it feel? How does it move me…or not. And then the ‘or not’ part started to bother me. Would I offend people or even worse…hurt them. Oh the spiritual new age bugaboo!! Continue Reading Hallelujah!

About Lisa Stidd Silver
Lisa Stidd Silver began her architectural career at the University of Illinois (Champaign/Urbana), graduating in 1987 from the School of Architecture, B.S.A.S. The past 23 years she has been refining her skills and expertise in the areas of residential design, small commercial and mixed use projects. Her commitment and passion is to the entire relationship between human connection and creative collaboration. These successful relationships have resulted in over 40 built projects thus far. Her landscapes for creating have ranged from South Florida in the early years, then migrating to Telluride, Colorado for the next 17 years where she founded Stidd Silver Design . The experience in Telluride afforded vast opportunities in designing and cohabitating in a very diverse, yet small, tight knit community in which the entire town is a historical landmark. She builds upon this experience in her newer home of Portland, Oregon since 2008. Although the city of Portland is a much larger footprint, she understands the importance and ease in living simply within the urban fabric and celebrates this existence in both her professional and personal life.
In addition to practicing architecture and raising her children, she also co-founded a grass roots Waldorf inspired pre-school and kindergarten, acting as Chairman of the Board for five years. All three of her children were born in Telluride, and are also now thriving in Portland, taking advantage of and exploring all that the city has to offer, culturally, politically and through their education. The fine art of balance being key in her full life, you might also find her climbing on her road bike, up the many hills in the area or hanging in one of her favorite coffee shop/parks writing about her life experiences and current issues she feels need a voice. Her published works may be viewed in a local Portland journal, Alternatives Magazine.
She is currently finishing a mixed use project in Telluride, and very excited about the construction start up on her first larger project as a collaboration, in Portland, a 1950’s condominium re-invent of the entry/lobby/terrace spaces. With her dedication and desire to immerse in her new community you will also see her works in projects such as the Boise-Eliot Village Market, an urban/outdoor farmer’s market in NE Portland and visionary for Moyo Jasiri ‘s Headquarters, a non-profit geared to empower women through entrepreneurship. If it has heart and soul…you will find her there.

This is the beginnings of an exploration. An exploration in the experiencing of built-scapes and landscapes. What is the attraction and draw to a particular space? It has been of great intrigue and interest to me as I have matured,Continue Reading Seeing Is Not The Only Way To Believe It
