About Vicki Granacki

Victoria Granacki, AICP, is a principal at Granacki Historic Consultants, a historic preservation firm located in Chicago that serves local governments, real estate developers, and private property owners.

As part of her work she has authored many architectural and community histories for Chicago and its suburbs and prepared nominations for listing a wide array of residential, commercial and industrial buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. She is the author of Chicago’s Polish Downtown, published by Arcadia Press in 2004 and reprinted several times since. Her latest research project, entitled “Paderewski – the Chicago Connection” explores the high regard between this famed Polish pianist and statesman and the citizens of Chicago. She has been invited to present her paper at an international conference in Warsaw, Poland in June.

Ms. Granacki has taught Introduction to Historic Preservation at Northwestern University School of Continuing Studies, and is a guest lecturer for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago Historic Preservation program and at the University of Illinois School of Urban Planning and Policy. She has given presentations on historic preservation at the Illinois Statewide Preservation Conference, Landmarks Illinois, the Glessner House Museum, and for many Chicago neighborhood organizations and suburban communities. Ms. Granacki holds a BA in Art from Mundelein College (Loyola University) in Chicago, and an MS in Urban Planning from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI.

With a growing passion for the light comic operas of the Gilbert and Sullivan musical partnership, each March she lends her artistic talents to set design and construction for the Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company at the University of Chicago. This year’s magical show was The Sorcerer. A history authored by Ms. Granacki, entitled “The Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company of Chicago: The First 50 Years,” will be released soon through Amazon publishing. www.gilbertandsullivanoperacompany.org.

Holden Block NameplateOne of the few remaining 1870s commercial loft buildings on Chicago’s Near West Side — the Holden Block — will be saved and brought back to its historic splendor thanks to its recent designation as a local Chicago landmark.
